                                                       Delicate handling

Genuine silver characteristically tarnishes with time. Tarnish develops on silver because of oxidation caused e.g. by sulfur compounds in the air. Many chemicals, such as haircare and skincare products and perfumes also cause tarnishing of silver jewelry. Therefore, when tidying and dressing up, it is recommendable that you put on your jewelry last.

We also recommend that you take off any jewelry when swimming or sunbathing.

However, silver can always be cleaned. Regular use and washing are the best ways to prevent tarnishing. When a piece of jewelry is not in use, you can take care of it by keeping it in an airtight container, e.g. in a TUOHI Jewelry box. It is also good to store silver jewelry items separately so that they do not scrape each other.

When cleaning silver, we recommended you start by rinsing your jewelry under lukewarm running water. This will remove any dust or dirt from the delicate surface. Next, mix a small amount of soap or dishwashing liquid with warm water and let the piece soak for a few minutes. Then rinse your jewelry item again with warm water and dry it gently with a soft cotton towel. Normal mild dishwashing liquid is suitable for washing.

Tarnished silver jewelry can also be cleaned with a silver cleaning cloth or a liquid silver cleaner. A silver cleaning cloth is sufficient for removing fingerprints and slight tarnish. A liquid silver cleaner can be used to remove heavy tarnish. Both are sold by local jewelers, among others. Silver is a relatively soft metal, so its surface can get scratched and its natural sparkle will dim easily. Thus, you should avoid using very abrasive detergents and treatments.

Please note that it is characteristic of silver that in use, shiny surfaces will become matt and matt surfaces will get shiny over time. This change is the most noticeable in rings, as their surfaces are more exposed to wear.
